During her summer study, Karley had the opportunity to receive a professional makeup certificate with Kryolan, the world-renowned professional cosmetics company. One of her favorite experiences in college has been traveling to New York City to study with the Lamar Dodd School of Art’s Maymester Program. Since completing a minor in Theatre and finding her place in the Dodd, Karley has been developing skills that will allow her to jump right into the industry. Here in Athens, the Department of Theatre & Film Studies and the Lamar Dodd School of Art have made wonderful homes for this passionate exploration. This discovery catapulted her into a passionate desire to explore and educate herself on all facets of SFX Makeup and prosthetics.
When SYFY’s revolutionary television show Face-Off premiered in 2011, Karley’s eyes were opened to the underground art of Special Effects (SFX) Makeup: the unrecognized commonality between her on-screen obsessions.
Each of these captured her attention and had something in common that little Karley couldn’t yet put her finger on. As a child, Karley was fascinated by the details portrayed on-screen in works like The Addams Family, Beetlejuice, Star Trek: The Next Generation, and E.T. Bio: A fifth year at the University of Georgia, Karley Sanders is actively pursuing a career in Special Effects Makeup for film, television, and theatre.
